Vagabond Writers Collective is a cohort-based workshop for serious writers. Ten to fifteen writers in a room, weekly, over three months. Working writers instructing you. Real critique. The first cohort opens soon.
The system is broken and we are aiming to fix it.
An MFA can cost anywhere from $60,000 and up. It takes 2-3 years to complete and doesn’t set you up to be a working writer in the world. Online writing workshops can sometimes have thousands of members and you don’t get the kind of critique you really need to improve. They can feel impersonal, pointless, and cost hundreds of dollars. And the writing internet is full of performance actors that aren’t doing real work.
Our solution is small cohort-based workshops with ten to fifteen writers and a working instructor who knows where you are and knows how to get where you want to go. Each cohort focuses on a specific topic and goes once per week over three months submitting, reading, workshopping, revising, and improving. It’s not about networking, it’s not about content strategy, it’s not about fame. It’s about writing the work you want to write and being the writer you want to be.
We believe writing gets better in rooms, not in isolation. And paying $60,000 for a cohort of writers you trust is a bad deal. So we built the room, and are keeping costs honest. We refuse to let anyone gatekeep a serious education.
Each session moves through a lecture on the week’s topic, an open discussion, and a Q&A, with homework assigned for the following week. Some sessions go deep into a single writer’s piece. The shape depends on what the cohort needs.
